A recess is a RECESS! How can a portion of committee keep advancing candidates when the committee was adjourned? It would seem that everything that a subgroup has or hasn't done would null and void unless there had been an explicit agreement to the contrary by ALL parties.
This week, while Senators are working in their home states, Judiciary Committee Republicans advanced controversial nominees for lifetime judgeships. Chairman Grassley wasn't even present. This has *never* been done during a recess before an election.

Doesn't this violate the (questionable) deal that McConnell made with Senate Dems last week, in which about a dozen judicial nominees were approved in exchange for a recess to allow Dems to go home and campaign? Did Dems miss the "fine print" in the agreement?

No, Dems missed the obvious point that Republicans no longer consider any political party or constituency legitimate outside their own. To paraphrase SCOTUS on Dredd Scott: “The Liberal is so far inferior that they have no rights which the Conservative man is bound to respect.”

GOP are just doing what they can get away with, indicating the Dems are fools" for not thinking of this first, and if they had. not taking advantage. Let's hope Dems get out & vote for civility and traditional ways of conducting govt activities. Need House & Senate.

Another McConnell Justice Coup of the third branch of the government of the Republic. I think it is going to fall under treason and all appointments for the last 2 years will be null & void. I have it on good authority

Why did democratic leadership let this happen? Why didn’t they stay and vote? Was there no procedural way to block this?
