“You hear America is a land of liberty. Of justice. That has not been my experience here. The food we eat. The place they keep us. The way we are treated. It is like we are humans of no value. We say America values the rights of men - then why do we have different rights?” (2/4)

He couldn’t speak English. He spoke French so one of his fellow detainees from Ghana volunteered to translate for him. He made this speech in front of all the guards and the other detainees – it was a tremendous act of courage. (3/4)

This is the kind of person who built America. Passionate, bright, courageous. He has come to America seeking asylum. We should be enthusiastically welcoming this man to our country, not imprisoning him. (4/4)
