I voted for an amendment to this legislation that would have fully exempted all retiree income, but Senate Democrats rejected it in favor of their unionist allies. 2/2

Senate Dems repeal of the so-called pension tax only fully exempts retirees on public pensions. I support eliminating taxes on retiree income, but this legislation doesn't fully exempt all retired people’s income, nor does it help seniors still working to make ends meet. 1/2

Moving up Michigan’s presidential primary would benefit residents and candidates alike. Behind the scenes, the Dems were unwilling to move the date to one where it wouldn't result in disenfranchizing Michigan's Republican voters. I voted no.

The Senate Democrats today approved an expansion of the EITC. I support reducing Michiganders’ tax burden, but voted no because this credit relies on a fraud-ridden fed program and no MI oversight. To help all Michigan workers, we should reduce the income tax for all.

TikTok harvests sensitive information and transmits it back to the Chinese Communist Party. This is a huge security risk, and there is no rational reason why any employee of the state of Michigan should be using TikTok on taxpayer-funded, government-issued devices.

Our children are in danger from progressive indoctrination, putting the rights of the education bureaucracy ahead of the rights of parents. Unfortunately, Lansing Democrats are more concerned with virtue signaling than protecting our kids.

While I am disappointed with Whitmer’s veto, I cannot say that I am shocked. She has never supported gun owners and she likely never will. I hope responsible gun owners will continue their efforts to protect this right. I certainly will. 4/a

State law is clear that county clerks shall issue concealed pistol licenses to those who are qualified, and my bill would have ensured that this essential service would continue regardless of any declared emergency. 3/a

🧵 This is a disappointing day for gun owners. The Second Amendment is clear that the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, but that is exactly what Gov. Gretchen Whitmer did today. 1/a

With inflation hurting families across our state, especially those living on a fixed income, it's a shame vetoed our bi-partisan plan to reduce the tax burden on families, workers, and seniors.

As expected, Whitmer vetoes $2.5B tax cut proposed by Republican lawmakers. It would have lowered the income tax, let more seniors qualify for tax exemptions and restored a child tax credit. #mileg

What’s more important, red-light cameras violate motorists’ constitutional rights, and studies show that they even increase traffic accidents. Red-light cameras are the definition of government overreach, and we should keep them off our streets. 3/

Recent guidance issued by the Biden Administration cleared the way for Michigan to use millions of dollars in funding to install automatic red-light cameras through the newly-signed federal infrastructure law. 1/

It’s encouraging to see that throughout the week, various county health departments and school districts have come to their senses, followed the science, and started to announce an end to their mask-wearing mandates for students. t/1

As leaders of our state, we need to make it clear that we stand with parents — not against them. Our children are suffering under the current broken policies, and it’s time that we allow parents, not government bureaucrats, to make health care decisions for their children. w/3

Last night missed a tremendous opportunity to stand up for thousands of students throughout our state who have been shut out of their classrooms. And as a result, the doors to their classrooms remain closed. Listen to my comments from the Senate Floor this morning 👇
