Also not to mention the military threat of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) weapons or a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from the sun; it’s smart to use resources to not only protect the US but the earth. An EMP or CME put us back to pre-industrial revolution living.

All of you negative comments realize that a lot of the technological advancements we’ve had over the last 50 years have ties to space, both from the military and civilian side of existing space operations? GPS, satellite communications, Velcro, micro-computers...should I go on?
