We see the childcare shortage play out in Madison and it’s even more prevalent in rural communities where families have far fewer options. Fewer childcare slots mean fewer workers able to rejoin the workforce. Workforce development conversations start here.

Let's get to work! Communities around the state need these responsible investments. We need more early childhood educators and trained caregivers in every part of the state.

On child care: - expansion of the Child and Dependent Care Credit, to provide nearly $30 million in tax relief for more than 100,000 people - $340 million for child care providers to help with operating costs, wages - $22 million to expand employer/child care partnerships

Mental and behavioral health is as much a health issue as it is an economic one—it affects our kids in the classroom, whether workers can join and stay in our workforce, and folks' ability to provide for their family. That's why I'm declaring 2023 the Year of Mental Health.

Putting children first is the right thing to do for our kids and it’s the right thing to do for our state's economy. In the past, Wisconsin has been a model for the country by doing the right thing for our children.

.@GovEvers in his State of State: "I am going to deliver on the promise I made before the election to use a portion of our state’s historic surplus to make an historic investment in our kids and our schools." The fight over K-12 funding will be one of the biggest this year

Grateful and excited have the opportunity to watch Gov. Evers deliver the State of the State again this year! I hope you'll join me by watching at 7 p.m. on PBS Wisconsin or Wisconsin Eye.

Oh great, this piece uncritically quotes a lawsuit filed by WILL, an organization that has admitted on the record to spreading lies to right-wing media sources to create an anti-trans panic.

“A lawsuit filed against a school district in Wisconsin included a photo of a teacher’s flyer posted at school that stated: “If your parents aren’t accepting of your identity, I’m your mom now.” nytimes.com/2023/01/22/us/

Senate Dems are calling for GOP commissioner @BobSpindell to resign from the Wisconsin Elections Commission or for Senate Majority Leader @SenatorDevin to rescind his appointment if he refuses the call. wispolitics.com/2023/dems-call

Senate Democrats are united in calling for the resignation of Wisconsin Elections Commissioner Bob Spindell. Voter turnout is and should be a point of pride in Wisconsin. The role of the WEC should be increasing democratic engagement, not the opposite.

The wealth of the top 1% increased by $6.5 trillion in 2021, but the pandemic hasn't been as great for millions of Wisconsin families. With inflation eating away at paychecks and families tightening their belts, the last thing we need is a massive tax cut for the mega rich.
Quote Tweet
When we deliver tax relief, it should be targeted to the middle class to give working families a little breathing room—not to give big breaks to millionaires and billionaires who don't need the extra help to afford rising costs. That's just common sense.

This appalling, racist commentary is offensive & wholly inappropriate for someone appointed to oversee the fair admin of voting laws. He needs to go. Maternal mortality is 5x for Black women v. white — it will get worse as Republicans have ensured abortion is criminalized again

Especially for those of us who are white, it should be a day to recommit to doing meaningful work towards racial equity. Recently, WI Elections Commissioner Bob Spindell celebrated the GOP’s success in suppressing the votes of Black and Hispanic voters.

The GOP’s flat tax proposal makes it clear that they care more about a massive tax cut for the wealthiest than real relief for working families and the long term wellbeing of our state. The people of Wisconsin deserve better. Hard pass.

I am proud to have testified on behalf of alongside , , , , , and so many more to defend a lifesaving rule protecting #LGBTQ youth from #conversiontherapy.
Quote Tweet
“LGBTQ+ youth are more than 2.5x more likely to attempt suicide. Suicide is multi-faceted, but we do see these correlations. The data is consistent and it does not lie.” - @CaseyJPick from the @TrevorProject “Conversion therapy is perhaps the highest form of family rejection.”
