I just finished struggling for 28 years to get my degree. I graduated in December. In more than one class, I was asked to stop raising my hand. I always did the work. One professor repeatedly said, "Be quiet old person." I refused to put my hand down. They had to ignore me.
-
Shocking that you were asked to not put your hand up.
-
What was more shocking and disappointing was none of my classmates ever stood up for me. Not once. Not even with the regular, "Be quiet old person" from the professor. I would never sit & watch someone get screwed with. I wish I'd had a better choice where I finished.

I was a mature student too when doing my A levels, only was shamed once but I still think the teacher did it as an experiment to see how the others would react and how I would react, she was into psychology like myself. Was lovely how students would ask my advice because older

When I was pregnant with daughter on the course, planned pregnancy with hubbie, it was amusing I became gossip in college and even had a teacher ring at home to check I was ok. Think they all forgot my age, marital status. Took exams 7 month pregnant and when child 6 weeks old.

What about our boys? We get kicked down for the actions of lesser men. Our Olympians get sexually harassed in buzzfeed. There are “girls can code too!” when the boys can’t either. I understand that women must elevate themselves but please don’t leave boys in the dust.
-
Historically, we live in a patriarchal society that favors the male (esp. white male) over female. Sexism and misogyny are so entrenched in our society that when women try to grasp for a bit of what's rightfully theirs, people say, "what about the boys?" The boys will be fine. /1

Coverture, or the idea that a woman was her husband's property & could not own property once married was modified in certain states in the mid-late 1800s, but certain aspects of coverture remained law as late as the 1960s. /2

Marital rape was legal until the 1970s-1990s as states began to change laws. To be clear, marital rape is non-consensual sex with your married partner, and it's a form of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Some states STILL dictate that marital rape must involve a weapon. /3

Of the 44 presidents who have served this country (1 served 2 non-consecutive terms), not a single one has been a woman. The 1st woman to win a major party's nomination for presidency was Hillary in 2016. 4 women have served the SCOTUS out of the 125 justices who served. /4

I watch C-SPAN, and see rooms full of mostly white men in suits making decisions for everyone. Where are the 50% of Americans who are women? I sit in work meetings & wonder why so few females end up as CEOs, or even make it out of the role of assistant. /5

My point is not to be pedantic or rude. Boys should be taught to be ambitious and compassionate as well. But they do not need to fight as hard as girls will to achieve their dreams. At least not until society changes A LOT from where it is now. /6

The clearest piece of evidence is how vile people and news were about Hilary, while giving Trump a pass for outrageous antics. He won. She was the most uniquely qualified person for the job ever. He is uniquely the most unqualified. Who won? U.S. loses by dismissing female talent
