We Owner/operators are now suffering income loss as a result of the federal ELD mandate. Pushed through with no input from small companies, ELD manufacturers allowed to "self-regulate" their units. It is a disaster for all but the large corporate trucking companies.

Agree. My work operates a small fleet and for just one truck, it cost about a thousand dollars to install ELD and is a 61$/month maintenance fee. It’s a huge cash giveaway to the ELD industry.
-
Another example of regulators and lawmakers taking the reigns over an industry they know nothing of. Very few, if any, have ever earned a living in trucking, so they have no clue how it works and what it takes. Kinda like a butcher doing heart surgery. You get the same effect.

Trucks are essential to our commerce but are one of the most dangerous aspects of driving because they are large, can't brake fast enough or avoid stupid drivers, AND they need their wits about them on our freeways. Falling asleep at the wheel is a x1 fatality waiting to happen,
-
Actually what would majorly reduce the risk of accidents involving trucks would be to educate drivers on the dangers of how a truck operates- limitations on sight, turns, breaking time etc. It's amazing to me the things drivers try to pull off around the truck it's insanity!
-
My trucker brother taught me so much about respecting those big rigs on the highway. They CAN'T stop on a dime, they CAN'T always see you... weights shifting in the truck, etc. I've always given them a wide berth, the right of way, and a break into traffic when they need it.
-
My nephew was also a long haul truck driver and the stories he told scared us daily that he would not make it home someday. People cut them off, race around them. It's the difference of a row boat and a yacht trying to avoid a swimmer.

People need to understand. All business regulations are designed to ensure the business community does not completely steal, pillage and rape the average person and environment. That is democracy. We are moving away from any barriers to exploitation.

Let's keep focus on state wide homelessness. Californians are hurting especially in the minority communities.
