This is such a good idea. Tax breaks for ppl who pay more than 30% of their income on rent. Tax breaks shouldn't just be for the rich!

So why you don't use your own money to help these in need? Leave MY money alone, you socialist! BTW. There are these illegals willing to work for $5 / h who cause lower pays for unskilled US citizens.

Your heart is in the right place, but this is bad policy. The credit will increase rents and effectively subsidize landlords. If ppl receive a fully refunded tax credit for any rent over 30% of their income, many will lease more expensive apartments. Landlords will raise rents.
-
Not to mention how complicated this would be. Sometimes the tax code really isn’t the best way to enact policy. We really need to pull our heads out of the Clinton era.
-
Good state level discussion, but a terrible political move at the federal level. Battleground states are not interested in how expensive rents are in NYC, LA, and SF.
-
It’s bad policy at any level. We need to invest money in housing by, you know, spending money on housing. The biggest problem with most government housing is the state of disrepair due to disinvestment. The land around high rises could also be filled in with commercial property.
-
If you look past ideology at history, you’ll see public housing was an enormous success that became a failure when we stopped maintaining it (and paying for lighting, security, and grounds). Gov simultaneously pulled white working class out of cities with FHA loans and redlining.
-
We need a renewed effort to fund public housing and leverage private investment. We need to relax zoning restrictions and allow construction of all kinds of housing in highly sought after areas. Many solutions are obvious, but ideology and a lack of political will hold us back.

You are waking up Kamala! Immigration policies has consequences! Housing crises in related 2 unrestricted immigration levels!! Construction companies CANNOT keep up with the demand. BUT liberals, like you, keep pushing for open borders!!!! passing a bill will NOT solve anything!pic.twitter.com/c2KnhaRONS

Again... NO ONE is “pushing” for Open Borders.

-
U kidding? Wake up and look at the Dems, that’s all they want in addition to abolishing ICE.
-
All they want?
Ok. -
OK, you're right. They also want free housing, free food, free college and free utilities.
-
We all know what the Republicans DON’T want. To be investigated!
