Her husband beat her. He raped her. Once, he poured turpentine on her skin - he wanted to set her on fire. He threated to kill her if she called the police or if she left him.

Aminta had, in fact, called the police on her husband several times, but the officers told her they wouldn’t interfere in a marital relationship. So, she fled to the United States to save her life.

Today, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced he will overturn the rule that allowed Aminta, and other women who are survivors of domestic violence, from seeking refuge in America. We should all be ashamed.https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/06/jeff-sessions-bars-most-domestic-violence-victims-from-asylum.html …

maybe she should have come in threw a port of entry instead of illegally crossing our borders. When you break the law you get jailed, kids taken then deported.. Pretty simple.. And we love this..
-
Education is a wonderful thing. Search on “asylum seeker.” OR, even better—you could read the Tweet you RTd which explains it.pic.twitter.com/9NjzCgeb5D

again, why cant they seek asylum in Mexico? Is it because Mexico doesn't have all the free liberal giveaways? that's my guess...
-
So, instead of admitting you had the wrong information, you just pivot to saying they should go somewhere else and talk about free stuff. In other words, you’re a racist that thinks they’re moochers that will take things away from us. Got it.

Not my problem. She could’ve went 50 miles from her home to get away from him. Instead she came here to get free stuff and provide votes for you democrats. Kick her out!
-
you are really pathetic.
-
No you are. You going to invite her into your house and feed her? Provide her with clothes and shoes.
-
i sure the hell wouldn't turn her away, but then i belong to the human race,
-
Then don't turn anyone away. Give all that you have. Give until it hurts and then give more. Forget about your kids, your parents, yourself. And then give more. Go rescue every person ever born, go! What are you waiting for? Go fourth and be human. Go on, go save the world.

maybe her government should have helped her. Maybe she should have stayed and worked with the government to protect women like her. Where do American women get to go for asylum?
-
We have laws to protect us (not that they do) - she didn't. Do you get that? What, exactly, would you suggest a poor woman with children, no money, and no job do to "help her government protect her?"
-
How does anything get done? Someone has to start it. There are many heroic women that changed laws in their countries without money and didn't run to a country of handouts to escape. Why not her? Are you saying she was incapable? Why didn't she go to Mexico or Honduras?
-
There are no handouts in asylum cases. She would simply get to stay.
-
I'm sure she got zero government assistance. There's a reason she didn't stop in Mexico, or go the other way to Honduras...$$$$$.
-
Also, no snark, but ask people about asylum who know or read about it. It doesn't afford you help. It's scary. Getting here with no job, no people, no money is scary. And yet people do it to be safe and have opportunity. I would hope you'd want us to help them. WWJD, right?
-
I think it is much more important that we help our own citizens and their safety before we worry about people from other countries. There are many of our own people hurting and fighting to live day to day that we have abandoned.
-
We really do have the ability to do both. We are the richest country in the world. There are ways to make sure we love and take care of our own vulnerable while also welcoming those that need security here. We’d want the same from our neighbors.
