No. We the People want to know how many citizens and non-citizens are in here. The question of citizenship SHOULD be there.

I suppose a person can invoke the 5th amendment and refuse to complete the census on grounds it may incriminate them, if we are not guaranteed anonymity.

The census determines, in part, how many voting districts there are. Illegal aliens are ineligible to vote. They should state their immigration status so they are not counted. Adding districts because of non citizens is dirty, & only corrupt politicians would be in favor.
