I live in one of Nevada's many mining communities and work in the industry myself. I've had the pleasure of working alongside many great female geologists and engineers as well as friends in more technical positions. Teach these girls they have options!

Perhaps the possibility should be considered that women largely just don’t want to be computer programmers. They don’t want to be loggers, miners, plumbers, or diesel mechanics either, let’s fix that disparity too.

I don't think the senator is talking about forcing girls into these careers as much as introducing them to the option earlier. I work in mining and it amazes me how often women don't apply for good paying positions because they see being a woman as a disqualification.
