    Kirsten Gillibrand Retweeted The Hill

Giving our underserved communities access to basic financial tools could empower them to build wealth for generations, and escape the poverty trap of predatory financial products. A postal bank would be a simple solution that would finally give everyone access to these services.https://twitter.com/thehill/status/989600511937667072 …

One of the first truly fresh and innovative ideas from congress in a long while. Bravo, Senator.

It is definitely a good idea, but calling it "fresh and innovative" is a stretch. It's already reality in many countries, including the UK, France, Germany, China, Brazil, Israel, India… I wish the US would copy good ideas more often. Say, universal healthcare and free college.

All of you against this, the USPS did provide banking services until 1966. And it worked.http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/history/2014/08/postal_banking_already_worked_in_the_usa_and_it_will_work_again.html …

Fund the postal bank through getting rid of $STMP contract with @USPS. $STMP causes @USPS and the US Government to lose money while enriching private shareholders.

Japan has had a bank through their postal system for some time now and while I don’t participate, I can see its convenience, especially for rural communities. Sounds good to me! More options can only help!
