Also, there's no place for homeless veterans lining interstate exit ramps with cardboard signs, and no place for predatory lenders, and women having to travel hundreds of miles to access reproductive healthcare, and mega tax breaks for the super wealthy, and authoritarian leaders

Also, undocumented migrants eating cat food because they're too scared to ask for any type of assistance, and people with Type 1 Diabetes dying of Diabetic Ketoacidosis because a vial of insulin costs 400.00 dollars and Congress prohibits the manufacture of generic biologics

I really appreciate the advocacy you are doing for women and workers. If you get a chance, please read my latest article on women workers. We need your voice--women are the working class and politicians keep ignoring this. Thanks again.https://www.damemagazine.com/2018/04/12/women-are-the-working-class/ …

I'm not so sure about that. I think people's basic needs (healthcare, food/water, shelter) should be taken care of, regardless of employment status
-
Agreed. But if one needs work, there should be a good job with good pay waiting for them.
-
What if another worker with their skill set isn't needed? (and sure, there should be retraining programs, and college should either free or at least very much more affordable than it is now) But to just say "if you want a job, you got it" is just absurd.
-
Modern productivity levels are pretty amazingly high, and only going to get higher. Creating jobs just to have jobs is both pointless, and will screw with "the markets" that capitalist love so much, way more than just having expansive social support/UBI would.

I agree but you suck and should resign. Take Schumer with you, the country isn't interested in being ruled by New York. Thanks!!
-
You know that even if she and Schumer resigned, there would still be two senators from NY in the Senate, right?
-
Yes, under new leadership. You can't argue with the lack of effectiveness. It's a truism.

Should working to make someone else wealthy really be our goal? I think our goal should be to make sure no one lives in poverty or without dignity regardless of their employment status.

Way to double down!
@SenGillibrand is on the tip of the most momentous civil rights struggle of our lifetime. A Federal Job Guarantee at a fair wage is enormous. She is going to need help to get this through. Help elect http://www.winfieldforcongress.com/ to Congress. -
A guaranteed minimum wage job so we can all be slaves for rich white people. No thanks. End H1b EB1C and L1 temp foreign worker programs & give those jobs to qualified citizens. That will lower unemployment & raise wages.
-
@WinfieldForUS is talking $20 an hour. Gillibrand $15. This would revolutionize black America. Even if you get rid of the visa, the private sector has never absorbed stigmatized labor at fair wages and conditions. There simply needs to be a public option for employment. -
$20 an hour is only 41K annually which in NY is poverty level. It will never happen because small business owners would close their doors & large businesses would pass it onto customers =inflation (so that 41K wouldn't go very far at all)
-
It would start at $20, but if your small-business relies on exploitation, you don't have enough money for the business. When the program was tested, it increased PRIVATE sector employment (the wages made work worth it again) and produced asset enhancing goods, e.g., roads.
-
I agree wages haven't kept up with inflation. $20 an hour jobs would stimulate the economy IF it didn't increase inflation. Raising everyones wages to $20 an hour would raise prices of goods, services & food. Businesses pass the wage increases onto customers.
