We cannot let Republicans in Congress ignore these students, turn the page and wait for everyone to move on. We need to keep weapons of war off our streets – now. We need to enforce universal background checks. We need to protect students.

Columbine occurred during the federal assault weapons ban. Weird how you forgot to say that.

My son is out educating his classmates on the second amendment.
-
That's excellent. Hopefully he is including information about regulations and responsible gun ownership. A bonus would be a national accepted definition of well regulated militia, and requirements for belonging in one in order to bear arms.
-
Well regulated means in good working order and you need to learn what the clauses in the amendment mean.

The sobering fact is that if my family had remained in Littleton, I would have attended Columbine and been a freshman that year. My preferred hangout spot? The library. Nobody deserves to die while pursuing their education, especially not KIDS.

The NRA does not dictate policy. The Constitution, which you took an Oath to protect & defend, limits Government ability to disarm citizens or limit the ability for a person to protect themselves & their property.
-
The NRA literally pays people to lobby Congress, gives them millions, and sends policy writers to draft legislation FOR CONGRESS. Try again.
-
The Bill of Rights lists specific prohibitions on governmental power. It is a brief list of natural rights that all people are born with & the government cannot take away.
-
And yet it’s been reinterpreted many, many times by SCOTUS and other legislative bodies to conform with the changes in society over the past two centuries & change: the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, has always been and always will be a living document, & changeable.
-
By democratically voted-on amendment, of course. That’s why there’s all sorts of additional amendments! Crazy, I know. Things change. Whoa.
-
Yes, they voted to include greater protection of individual liberties to be safeguarded against governmental restraint. Liberties/Rights that are Natural Rights of all people. A specific list from which the Government is PROHIBITED making laws against.
