Assad’s use of chemical weapons against his own people was evil. However, President Trump has no legal basis for this strike. He does not have an authorization for the use of military force against Syria by Congress.

With no discussion of strategy and consequences, which could be significant, I do not support this decision.

With all due respect Senator, this one is ALL on you lot. Had Congress actually enforced the provisional constraints of the 1973 (see 50 U.S.C. § 1547d) WPR the first time it was used as a cover for such a strike, you wouldn't be making this Tweet. Do your job.

So NOW there is an opportunity to actually ENFORCE it. But no, what is likely going to happen is that ALL of you are going to do what you ALWAYS do: Talk about it. Until the next time it happens. And we're right back here. Again. ps: This is a GOOD reason to impeach that fool.

pps: You are probably aware that the WPR itself - which politicians passed - was already debated as being unconstitutional to begin with. But here we are.

          1. At the risk of trying to bring some nuance to Twitter, what follows is a #thread on U.S. law vis-a-vis the war powers, and why the legality of the #SyriaStrikes as a matter of U.S. law (to say nothing of int'l law) is both far from certain and revealing of far deeper problems:

Ms. Gillibrand, only an incompetent person would sit there & shoot off her mouth before she has all the facts - which are still being released. You don't support the decision, that even NATO has approved? Praise God you'll never be president.

Additionally I doubt she would be able to partake in any decision making process without political partisanship clouding her judgment. Even if Trump was 100% right about something she would dream up reasons to oppose him, this is why I can’t take her seriously.
