I even tip when I do carry-out...these good people are just trying to earn a living wage.

This... I’ve always tipped, dine in, carry out and delivery (in addition to delivery charges, because the driver doesn’t get a cut of that.) Just how my mom taught me, always stuck.

That’s a really, really well done piece. The abusive tippers culture is a reason my kids and I have favorite waitresses and waiters at our usual eateries. They’ve gotten to know us and the other way around, so neither side feels the need to put on for the other. Be a good server

And be a good customer and everyone does well! Take good care of my family and we’ll tip top notch every time, save the flirting for who you WANT to flirt with.

Ya know who was a powerful voice for working people and a champion of protecting everyone from workplace harassment? Al Franken

Yeah, it's too bad he did all that sexual misconduct and then resigned. If only he hadn't done so much sexual misconduct over so many year and then resigned, on his own accord, because of his own admitted, serial sexual misconduct.

In 1971, I cocktailed waitressed on the side. We gave the bartender & our busboy 10% (each) of our tips. Reasonable. Now I read that establishments want to pocket the tips. Terrible! Hard work!

Remember seeing a dusty old Arizona cowboy skillfully drop a quarter tip on a breakfast meal. You could tell that he had done this all of his adult life.

As I guy I'm disgusted by my gender's role in this. I don't know what I can do about it more than I am, which is calling out men when I see it, and similar behavior. I wish I could do more

We always tip 20%--(30% to a breakfast wait-staffer) to show respect for the working man and woman who has to endure long hours on their feet in dangerous conditions. And, we never insult or demand--there are too many inconsiderate people to do that.

I don't see why restaurants can't just pay their employees an actual wage like literally every other business out there.

Eliminating the tip credit will not solve this issue. Restaurant owners will be forced to raise prices and will be less likely to confront rude customers because they won’t want to lose the business they need to cover the increasing costs.

Rubbish. No one tips outside of the US. Travel to Europe. This tipping nonsense doesn't exist.

I worked as a server in my 20s in WA and was disgusted when I moved to AZ and learned that my employer didn’t have to pay me minimum wage because I received tips. Lots of my coworkers were single moms and students.
