Retired Col. Don Christensen writes: “Kelly’s defense of Porter is rooted in a military culture that too often values loyalty to cronies more than justice for their victims.” The "good-soldier defense" is an another example of why we must reform our military justice system.https://twitter.com/theatlantic/status/968159982263898112 …

Happened to me while I was living on Andrews AFB. Military police were fabulous. Everything after that, not so much. I was told I was just trying to ruin my husband’s career, and it went downhill from there. I am a vet myself, though I was already out when this happened

Military prosecutors and defense counsel get little actual contested jury trial experience compared to civilian prosecutors. Send them to civilian courts; the problem is not the military justice system but lack of common sense approach. Navy send docs to civilian trauma centers!

That would do much justice to the victims; to have someone defending them with the experience they need to prosecute - that is all I am saying.

Sadly, it’s also rooted in American culture. Thank you Senator, for your work on these issues in our Military.

She has fought for YEARS to protect both male and female soldiers who have been sexually assaulted and are not being protected by the military justice system by just this kind of internal BS. You bet she’s helping soldiers!

That's ridiculous. You imply no one can know anything without firsthand experience. You are saying she is incapable of listening to others, to investigating, researching, interviewing & compiling data that leads to this conclusion? And speaking from that?

It is more than "loyalty to cronies." Look to the number of underreported assaults, rapes and attacks among and between our troops...it is a climate, just like in Hollywood and elsewhere: fear of reprisal...very REAL reprisal like freedom or life-threatening actions. Atrocity

Stop. The military NO LONGER USES THE GOOD SOLDIER DEFENSE IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASES. Congress banned its use back in 2015. You and Christiansen lose all credibility with this nonsense.

You would think that you, of all people, would know this, since the degradation of due process in the military has been your priority.

I encourage you to read the Subcommittee of the Judicial Proceedings Panel's "Report on Barriers to the Fair Administration of Military Justice in Sexual Assault Cases." Will you? No. Because it does not fit your narrative.

If she actually sees your tweet, she very well might read it and be glad you updated her on that. She's really quite smart and actually knows how to research. You should c/c it to the author.
