Today, the Supreme Court begins hearing oral arguments in Janus vs. AFSCME Council 31, a case that is a direct attack on public-sector unions and our workers’ ability to organize to improve their wages and working conditions.

This case is being heard at the behest of wealthy corporate interests who want to take away workers’ power, part of a cynical movement to further weaken American unions.

Our unions are key to rebuilding the middle class with good wages, safe jobs, and retirement and healthcare benefits, all of which will lift up our economy. I'll always speak out for good union jobs, and for our workers’ freedom to organize. I hope you will too.

I can only speak for my own union but zero dollars of our dues go to the political arm of the union. You have to sign up to give separately for that...which I do, proudly.

Ha! U may want to pass that info@ onto SCOTUS cuz they will rule it’s unconstitutional to collect funds from folks that r not a member of the union!

As a union member I say hell yes to that. You don’t like it? Work in retail for min wage or move to a right to freeload state where you have fewer job protections and a lower salary.

Why would you require me leaving a job just because I don’t want to participate in your union?

Because it's part of the work agreement when you voluntarily applied for the job. Just like showing up to work on time is part of your employment requirements. If you don't like it, go get another job.

How about Government jobs? I don't understand how people are forced to join a Union that my tax payer dollars pay their salary for. Shouldn't the voters decide how much government workers should be paid?

Um no, because the workers gathered together and decided they're worth more than making 7 dollars an hour doing road work. You don't have to work for the government.

Being a Californian I'd vote to pay teachers more if I could, the union has negotiated them a wage that is unlivable in my opinion. The minimum wage here is 11.00 per hour, no one makes 7.00 per hour.

It's 7.25 here in MI. I'm glad you would personally give them a raise but it's ultimately up to the teachers what they negotiate to make vs what the school boards pay them. I'd rather have it than not.
