Low-wage workers rely on tips as major source of income, and work extremely hard for them. This new plan gives employers the license to take money—billions of dollars worth—straight out of the pockets of the people who need it most.https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/04/business/economy/tips-rule.html …

If they pocket it, then no more tips given and boycott places that don't give a living wage. We consumers need to speak up.

If this happens, how can we help, as consumers? Should we tip in cash to avoid this?

If they get caught pocketing the tips they could be fired for stealing. I’m with you. I’m afraid people won’t tip, since we do it for the server.

We tend to tip fairly generously, esp for great service. We even make sure we tip on the pre-discounted amount when we get free birthday meals at restaurants. I will have to stop if they aren't even allowed to keep the money.

Absolutely. However I’m not sure we will KNOW in each case whether they’ll be allowed to keep it or if the owner is going to steal it from them. And I mean steal.

Disgusting. Tipped workers are abused enough as it is. They should unionize.
