Here we go again: Next week, the Senate will vote on legislation that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. This bill is unconstitutional and could have disastrous consequences for women and families across the country. We must all come together to stop it from passing.

wouldn't it have disastrous consequences for the babies? Do they have any rights? To be born? I ask this honestly. I'm a conservative who thinks Trump is a joke but could never vote D because of tweets like this. Is there any place for a pro-ilfer in the D party?

Of course. Your opinions are your own. However, you have to understand the maj. Of us are for human rights and, especially women's rights. Maybe being an independent will work better? Hope it helped.

Would that include females in the womb? I’m truly not trying to be snarky. I’m seeking to understand a position that I see as morally untenable. “I’m for human rights. Except for humans that haven’t been born yet?”

The alternative is that women have no control over what happens in their bodies. For me, that position untenable.

Kathy, I'm seeking to understand the position. I understand what you are saying. But isn't more fair to say "what's happening inside their bodies?" Surely a male baby in a mother's woman isn't "her body" but inside her body."

Nope. I grew my kid. From zygote, to fetus, to birth. And I'm so glad I had the choice to choose what was best for me. Choices in this matter go both ways if you look at it.

You said, "What's best for me." So, to you, the mother's rights cancel out the babies right to be born? Or do babies have a "right" to be born?

Mothers who have to make this difficult choice so late have a good reason. Such laws would force women with unviable pregnancies or fetuses with terminal abnormalities to carry the baby to term. Many terminal conditions cannot be detected until later in the pregnancy.

Is 20 weeks pretty fair? Isn't that nearly 4 months? How developed should the baby be before it's not OK?

Agree. I’d have to look at the details. By 20weeks one should know the health consequences, I have to admit, I have a hard time agreeing to abort a baby at this time in a pregnancy. I guess if the mother’s life was in jeapardy, I’d support.

That all sounds reasonable. I'm male so as far as if abortion is moral I try to stay out of it even though I have my own thoughts. But past 20 weeks for healthy kids it's harder to get behind, but I try to be open minded anyways. Thanks!

Most abortions are before 20 weeks. The <5% after are either safety of the mother, non-viability of the fetus, or some are because the mother doesn't have access in their area and have to save up and take off work far in advance to travel days to an area that does offer abortion.

And not that my opinion matters that much, but I still think on such a hot topic we have to have public debate to make progress either way as a society.

Your opinion matters. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't. I may or may not agree, but everyone's opinion matters, and debate helps us form a more informed opinion.

Please read this. As every pregnant woman knows, there are a number of catastrophic birth defects that can’t be detected until the 20-week scan. Late term abortions are rare and overwhelmingly performed for medical reasons.http://www.refinery29.com/2017/07/162888/second-trimester-abortion-personal-experience …

So what are you doing about the cause? Have you helped secure adequate funding for education, child care, healt care, birth control, or safety from abuse? Don't whine to me about killing babies until you do something to help the women making this heart wrenching choice!

Both men and women too young to remember when abortions were illegal and were performed in back alleys with coat hangers don't realize how much suffering the Repubs want to visit on women who are already in a bad situation. We will all be hurt by this.

Yes! Illegal or no there will always be women who seek them, this will just take away a safe way for women to have them. It's mind boggling - if R's are so intent on "life" why can't they focus on providing adequate healthcare for those already living?
