For the first time in our nation’s history, we could have a government shutdown while one party controls the White House, the U.S. Senate, and the House of Representatives. A government shutdown is 100% avoidable.

The problem is that President Trump has previously declared he wanted the government shut down. He's doing all he can to get it.

There is broad bipartisan agreement that the government should not shut down, that health insurance for 9 million children should be extended for 10 years, and that Dreamers should be protected.

But the president and his irresponsible enablers in Congress refuse to take yes for an answer. They want to hold our country hostage for a taxpayer funded, ineffective border wall that the president promised that Mexico will pay for.

I will continue to work with my colleagues in a bipartisan manner to avoid the president's manufactured crisis. But I will not support another short-term CR that does not protect children’s health insurance and DACA recipients.

It’s funny that you say that. The dems are giving our country NOTHING while trying to protect the citizens of another country and leaving Americans out to dry. Go work for Mexico if you want to advance their agenda. Protect our CITIZENS and uphold the constitution. #AmericaFirst

you are holding US citizens hostage, making them less important than illegal aliens. Yes, ILLEGAL!! It pays to break the law I guess, while we go without a paycheck now!

we (dems) really need a consolidated message and public news appearance by a group of dem leaders, like the GOP do. Do it now or peril at the voting booth in November

LIAR, are you kidding me? You shut down the government for ILLEGAL immigrants. You do NOT represent illegals (non-citizens), you represent citizens! Isn't this a dereliction of duty; at the very least breaking your oath of office.

Trump caused this by arbitrarily imposing a date to end DACA. Then he went back on his promise to "sign anything" the Senate gave home to fix it. We're tired of Trump's lies and inconsistencies. Dems showed they're willing and able to shut down the gov't to do what's right!

Well, Obama arbitrarily started it, time to end it (and immigration debate) again for another 20 or 30 yrs. I'm all for the debate and legislation for immigration reform.

Obama saw what we all saw: a unique problem that required a bold solution. Unfortunately, GOP and their base would not act so the EO became necessary. Immigration debate is a completely different problem requiring a much different solution.
