For the first time in our nation’s history, we could have a government shutdown while one party controls the White House, the U.S. Senate, and the House of Representatives. A government shutdown is 100% avoidable.

The problem is that President Trump has previously declared he wanted the government shut down. He's doing all he can to get it.

There is broad bipartisan agreement that the government should not shut down, that health insurance for 9 million children should be extended for 10 years, and that Dreamers should be protected.

But the president and his irresponsible enablers in Congress refuse to take yes for an answer. They want to hold our country hostage for a taxpayer funded, ineffective border wall that the president promised that Mexico will pay for.

I will continue to work with my colleagues in a bipartisan manner to avoid the president's manufactured crisis. But I will not support another short-term CR that does not protect children’s health insurance and DACA recipients.

Seems the Dems are the one filibustering. Not Republicans. Maybe Dems need to come to the table and get this done. Stop arguing over immigration and DACA.

They did. There was a bipartisan agreement on DACA and other immigration issues,on Tues. Trump decided to say #shithole instead of yes. Dems would've happily funded CHIP if only the @GOP SENT a clean bill forward. GOP never did. #TrumpShutdown

In fact, every time anyone tried to negotiate in good faith, from either side, president #Chaos, @SenateMajLdr McConnell, and @SpeakerRyan have screwed it up.

Obviously it didn’t work. Now try again! This isn’t a one way ticket. The only way things get better is to keep bringing ideas and policies to the table. Not constantly one sided BS! If at first you don’t succeed...let’s get it done!

That's the price of electing president #Chaos, who has run multiple business into bankruptcy. He doesn't understand how to lead. He just understands quitting and blaming.

Hmmm. Trump blaming, but here you are blaming Trump? Get out of here with that bull! Trump will sign anything Congress puts in front of him. I’m no Trump fan but he has done more good than bad. The only thing he’s done bad is run his mouth.

Yeah he said that. Then when he was given a bipartisan deal to sign, he changed his mind. He lied - you've got to keep up.

You know how to get bipartisan votes on both sides make all legislators and senators lose their paycheck until government shutdown is over. Not military or other government workers that have nothing to do with being held hostage.

If Mexico is going to pay for the wall as Trump promises, why is it in the Government Spending Bill? Why does the GOP and Trump want taxpayers to front the money for Mexico?

This is the result of a Chaos Presidency and a Republican Congress that can't govern properly. IMO, this should be the real message.
