The @RecallPersky team has done something unprecedented: When justice went unserved, they took on not just the judge, but an entire system that devalues women and lets abusers off easy. They’ve put sexual assault on the ballot.

There’s still a long, costly fight ahead before this is successful, and survivors are counting on it. Can you give to help make sure justice wins? Every dollar is critical to helping stand with survivors and seeing this through: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/kg_recallpersky …

This is bad. Targeting a judge for giving a lawful sentence only perpetuates the overly punitive criminal justice system we have in this country. Democrats should be better than this.
-
It’s not a lawful sentence. The judge reduced what the jury sentenced Brock to. He decided 6 months was “enough” for violent rape. The people of California disagreed.
-
That's not how sentencing works.
-
But this is how you address problem judges. You don’t have a problem with this judge? Don’t sign the petition.
-
I have a problem with replacing judges because they don't put people in jail or prison for long enough.
-
When it’s for violent crimes like rape it’s different than non-violent drug offenses
-
Mass incarceration in this country isn't going to be reversed if we don't address excessive sentences for violent crime.
-
If you think 3 months in jail for violent rape is excessive we have vastly different opinions. I personally believe people are not sentenced enough for rape. Very few cases are prosecuted.

I agree with the
@RecallPersky. But how can you pick and choose who deserves justice? Where were you when Kate Steinle was denied justice just because you defend sanctuary cities and criminal immigrants? -
Same can be said of the countless massacres by our own citizens that get to use insanity pleas...

Thank you
@SenGillibrand for your support.#TIMESUP
for Judge Persky and for impunity for violence against women. @FemMajority@RecallPersky@thehuntinground@ambertamblyn@RepSwalwell@RoKhanna@tylerkingkade -
The unintended consequences of this recall could be devastating, and probably not for privileged white men. https://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2016/06/08/should-an-unpopular-sentence-in-the-stanford-rape-case-cost-a-judge-his-job/judicial-recall-will-inevitably-lead-to-harsher-sentences … &https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/01/the-dangerous-misguided-campaign-to-recall-the-judge-who-sentenced-brock-turner.html?via=recirc_recent …

This is a lose, lose for Men. Shut up and let the system run its course. A Judge has to take all the information into account in cases where Mandatory Minimums don't overrule Judicial Discretion. But, I totally get why Women are pissed off. How do you win? Respected female Judge?
-
The interesting thing is how BAT is pressing for a new trial. If convicted again he'll likely receive a much stiffer sentence. And as he's obv finding out, being on the Reg SO list is no joke. He didn't get off scot-free.

If you're trying to attract millennial support, this is a terrible strategy. We're appalled that you'd support recalling a judge for giving less punitive sentences. Our generation is trying to end mass incarceration. This kind of campaign is part of the problem.
-
He raped a woman who was unconscious after he snuck her, while she was barely able to stand, behind a dumpster, so that he could hide his crime. Six months is an absolute joke. Using this case to argue for the societal benefit of lighter sentencing undermines the cause.
