Yes, Senator. The “war of drugs” has always been - and remains to this day - racially driven. Walk into any jail or prison in this country (including Rikers Island)

So, Sen. Gillibrand would have us believe that only "people of color" smoke pot. Obviously, she doesn't get out from her gated community much.
-
That’s not what she said.
-
"We should call this country’s war on drugs what it really is: a war on communities of color." This is exactly what she said. Obviously Gillibrand has never been to Austin, Texas or Denver, Colorado.
-
Her point being that arrests for marijuana possession fall disproportionately on POC, not that whites don’t smoke pot.

On the other hand, maybe "communities of color" should get a real job, rather than making a living selling drugs
Where would folks get other ideas

Jesus, dude. You’re already in Maine - in the middle of nowhere so you can be at peace with nature and whiteness, and you come on here talking shit about things you know nothing about.pic.twitter.com/zJWHAIpBTW

It's obvious you and Sen Warren understand
#cannabis legalization is a must for any 2020 potential presidential candidate. Cannabis is not a dangerous drug. It's a medicinal plant which every citizen should have the right to cultivate and consume.#bigpharma killsThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

When one is a racist, you see race everywhere.

Oh, Lou. That's not how any of this works, Lou.

Don't shoot the messenger for pointing out "projection."

We need to do the math, r we spending more money trying to stop drugs, something that will never be stopped, or r we breaking even? Either way, perhaps decriminalizing drugs & investing in keeping pp from ever wanting to use, would be a better outcome.
-
I agree with this generally, but it bothers me how closely this narrative parallels what gun nuts say about guns. I think we need a different narrative. Drug use is a community health hazard and should be treated as such. So are guns. My neighbors drugs don't kill me. Guns can.
-
in this case, too, however, we need to begin at the bottom, the beginning, where we start and come from, assuring people are raised right, healthy, cared for without abuse, neglect, and have proper aid if they have any mental or emotional issues.
-
Yes, and I do believe there is a role for govt in this. Opportunity isn't equal.
