Marijuana laws in this country are discriminatory and unjust – and communities of color are paying the price. Congress needs to pass the Marijuana Justice Act to finally address the decades of harm caused by our failed drug policies.

Just because a law disproportionately affects a certain population does not make it discriminatory. Why make it a race issue when you could point to the support marijuana sees from the medical community and its low health risks? I'm for legalization but don't make this about race

You are right there are many, many reasons to legalize. However, ignoring the truth doesn't do anybody any good.pic.twitter.com/itHWsBtMn8

No doubt, the origins of the law are racist in nature, but now the opposition to legalization is mostly not for reasons of race. I figure that linking anti-legalizstion with racism may lead to spite and discourage reasonable discourse about the matter. Also that's s good quote

The DEA was about to loose funding from Congress because they couldn’t produce enough evidence of pervasive cocaine & heroine distribution. So they enacted strict laws against marijuana. A perfect way to chase the Mexicans and get their results to take back to congress. Fact

Sounds about right. Weed is much easier to detect than the hard stuff, it takes up more space and easier for dogs to smell.

This was j edger Hoover era. Before advertising drugs to the youth culture to create demand. Where there’s demand there’s suppliers. Make your own crisis and keep your department by cleaning up the messes only they can do.

I would argue alcohol is more dangerous than Marijuana. Most people on Marijuana just want to eat and watch TV. Plus places with legal marijuana have lower opiate addictions and we need every solution we can get with this current epidemic. Let it be free.pic.twitter.com/a8RI7x58XO

Selective enforcement plus private, for-profit prisons, where the prisons can lobby for laws and fill quotas and use the labor for free? Call it what you want, but it is evil.

Marijuana should be legalized in every state & on the federal level. Tax revenue in Colorado alone for 2017 was over $246 million dollars! CA just legalized this year & had seen over $34 million in the first quarter. Just think if all the good that money can do for each state
