On this day in 1935, the Social Security Act set up a framework to care for the most vulnerable among us. But our fight continues to make sure every American’s basic needs are met. Today, let’s stay true to our values by working to protect and strengthen Social Security.

we need a better Social security, cannot live on $650 a month or less. we need affordable housing for seniors and others on low/fixed incomes, thanks. more than 1/3 of those without homes in the USA are 50+, it is ABOMINABLE, CRIMINAL AND A TRAVESTY HOW WE TREAT SENIORS.

Not only social security but also programs like Medicare, Mediaid, Meals on Wheels, Home Heating Assistance and Food Stamps. These programs must continue and be fully funded. Without them many seniors would be homeless.

You and the rest of Congress shouldn’t have borrowed off the SS program for the past decades. It would have been solvent for years to come.

I don't think it is as much a framework to care for vulnerable people, as it is a forced savings account for us so that everyone has at least something in retirement. I made my deposits for decades. Now I'm getting returns from my "bank". This is not a government bailout.

I worked and paid into SS. I got yearly reports of how much I would receive after retirement. When I retired, the amount was cut from $800/mo because I had a career/pension in law enforcement. I now receive $111/mo from SS. This was not protection or strength.
