Our underserved communities deserve access to the basic financial tools that could empower them to build wealth. By creating a bank within the United States Postal Service, we could give every American an accessible, low-cost banking option that could wipe out predatory lending.https://twitter.com/MotherJones/status/1026570873136992258 …

The concept has merit, but honest to god, seeing how they have a 50% success rate with mail does not fill me with hope about their banking abilities.

I worked at USPS for over 14 years, in multiple positions. I can assure you that while they do have issues their success rate is much much higher than that. The US has one of the, if not the, best, most efficient postal services in the world. And cheapest.

A bank within the postal system? You mean the postal system that has been hemorrhaging money for the past decade & isn’t even solvent year to year? That’s almost as bad an idea as letting the government run our healthcare. Hillary 2.0 has got to go!! @CheleFarley for US Senate

I hope she comes right to Tennessee and takes on Alan Jones one of Donald Trump's big donors. He owns Check Into Cash. Unfortunately we do have a lot of shady things in Tennessee. Marsha Blackburn being one of them.

This is a great idea! Several friends and family have been victims of the payday lending crooks who take real advantage of those who cant get bank accounts so this Post Office bank program will be a godsend to many who need our help. GREAT IDEA!

Lol... truth is government already nationalized a lot of banking and lending. Alphabet soup of regulations and regulators.

Regulation is one thing but giving them direct access to your accounts is stupid. Yes the govt can do what it wants but how much evasive access do we really want to give them.

Worth noting that in the UK, a Post Office based bank (Girobank) was v.succesful - and modernised banking along the way (Girobank was eventually privatised, but only after reducing the numbers of adults without bank accounts in the UK to around 2%) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girobank

And when borrowers can’t repay because they were bad credit risks in the first place- you will be the first to demand forgiveness with the tax payers picking up the bill.
