Today, on Emma Lazarus’s birthday, we look to her poem inscribed on the Statue of Liberty, which tells the story of an America that welcomes “your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.” But to live up to her words, we must reflect on where we’ve come from and where we are.pic.twitter.com/Bylr0XAKru

The Trump administration has slammed America’s doors on those seeking refuge, beginning with the passage of the discriminatory travel ban. Now, there are children detained at our border reportedly being subjected to physical and verbal abuse.

We cannot look in the other direction when we see the injustices and abuses of power happening right here on American soil. We cannot shy away from our responsibility to treat immigrants with humanity and compassion. We cannot turn our backs on the ideals of Emma Lazarus’s poem.

We must fight for the tired, the poor and the huddled masses that Emma Lazarus wrote about. We can’t let them experience horrors in our country like the ones they set out to escape.

We have the power to make sure our country achieves the ideals inscribed on the Statue of Liberty. If we stay strong in the fight for what’s right, for the values we want America to represent, we can ensure we live up to our promise of safety, opportunity and hope.

There you go again. Love how politician USE children for there FAKE outrage. Congress wrote the law, @BillClinton signed the law, @BarackObama enforced the law, Liberal 9th circuit court ruled to remove children, yet you say @realDonaldTrump fault? Pandering. Congress can fix it.

How about taking care of the Americans who are already tired and poor....and if you think they are experiencing horrors being detained for illegally entering our country, its time for you to resign, uphold the laws and your OATH! #termlimits

We have immigration laws for our national security, which should be our gov't's top priority. If you don't like provisions in our current law or how they're being executed, Congress should work to change them. Immigration laws themselves are necessary and not inherently evil.

We will continue to fight for the rights of people of all races and religions to enter the greatest country on earth. Just as soon as they pass the test , take the oath, and learn the language. Outside of that, they will be arrested, incarcerated, and tried and imprisoned.
