The Trump administration has slammed America’s doors on those seeking refuge, beginning with the passage of the discriminatory travel ban. Now, there are children detained at our border reportedly being subjected to physical and verbal abuse.

We cannot look in the other direction when we see the injustices and abuses of power happening right here on American soil. We cannot shy away from our responsibility to treat immigrants with humanity and compassion. We cannot turn our backs on the ideals of Emma Lazarus’s poem.

We must fight for the tired, the poor and the huddled masses that Emma Lazarus wrote about. We can’t let them experience horrors in our country like the ones they set out to escape.

We have the power to make sure our country achieves the ideals inscribed on the Statue of Liberty. If we stay strong in the fight for what’s right, for the values we want America to represent, we can ensure we live up to our promise of safety, opportunity and hope.

It's time to stand for the US Citizens that pay your wages instead of those who come here to change our culture. If they still came to be part of the melting pot no problem, but if they want what they left they should return to where they came from.https://twitter.com/SandraHartle/status/1021811726897963009 …

Maybe the issue is in the punctuation. This nation now has a lot of selfish, name-calling bullies. “Give me. You’re tired. You’re poor. You’re huddled masses yearning to breathe free; the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.”

Thank you Kirsten for continuing to fight for the citizens of this Country, rich, poor, healthy and sick. Your courage continues to be inspiring!
-
Seems to me that she's fighting for citizens of other countries who have no right to be here.
-
She is a multi tasker and has proven to be quite capable of watching out for all human beings. Honestly compassion for all of humanity really isn't that hard.
-
Watching out for all human beings is not part of her job description. It is to protect the interests of the United States and its people, for which she is well-compensated.
-
People like you are exhausting. Try having some compassion for others once in a while. You might find it feels good.
-
Members of Congress are hired to do a job, not buy votes or virtue signal with the people's money. I'm quite capable of choosing my own causes and charities without the "help" of a politician.
-
She's my Senator and I'm quite happy with the job she's doing. Also no one told you how to choose charities or causes. They commented on your lack of compassion for all human beings. Which has clearly shown through in your tweets. You only have compassion for some.
-
When Congress takes my money to redistribute to those it deems less fortunate, it is doing exactly that. And no, I do not believe that government policies and spending should be based on knee-jerk emotional responses to the boo-hoo story of the day.
