  2. I’m glad to see groups in California working to prevent youth substance misuse were awarded nearly $1.5 million from the Drug Free Communities Program. This is an effective program and I will continue to support funding at the highest possible level.

  4. Thursday night saw the ninth federal execution this year and the first during a presidential transition in 130 years. More federal executions have been carried out in 2020 than the past 56 years combined. No one should approve of this rush to end life.

  8. The Judiciary Committee has already departed from precedent in holding one lame duck nominations hearing. It is not too late, however, to cancel the December 16 hearing and return to the longstanding practice under which judicial nominees are not processed after Election Day.

  10. Driftnets from commercial fishing kill so much marine life each year that they’re banned in international waters. The U.S. should catch up. just passed ’s bill to protect whales, dolphins and sharks by phasing out driftnets nationwide.

  13. JUST IN: My bill with to ban the use of harmful driftnets in federal waters passed the House. This bipartisan bill will help the fishing industry transition to sustainable methods and prevent the needless deaths of whales, dolphins and turtles.

  14. The federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality helps keep our medical system modern and efficient. In the middle of a pandemic we should be funding more health care research, not cutting it. We’re calling for an increase in funding for this important work.

  15. New technology we funded allowed California to hold more water in Lake Mendocino to help prevent shortages. This prevented a loss of water equal to 18% of the current level. We need to expand use of this new tool.
