For centuries the United States has been admired for our ability to be successful while embodying compassion and setting standards for humane treatment of people. Whole countries have followed our example. Now, some want us to say our shoulders are not strong enough for this.

I REJECT that notion. Our shoulders ARE strong enough to open our arms and hearts with compassion and still be successful ourselves. Our shoulders have ALWAYS been strong enough. We have not suddenly become so weak that we must close our hearts to compassion.
