I thought that the Senate ratified treaties negotiated by the president. Why can Trump unilaterally throw out a treaty without the consent of the Senate or is this one more power that a weakened Congress has given up in defiance of the Constitution?

I'll wager withdrawal is already decided. Also, a preemptive invasion and occupation of Iran will be pondered. Reasoning will be to rid Iran of WMDs, change regime, and bring democracy to the "liberated" Iranians. Mission to cost less than $2B, & be paid for by oil revenues.
