It does. Not as a police force but by pressuring counties to allow freedom of the press and for the release of journalists that have been wrongly arrested or imprisoned.

Thank you Senator. The free press are certainly at the forefront of protecting our democracy, and promoting democratic ideals world-wide. I doubt though, that the state department has the same values any more.
