Cops, of all people know that guns should not be in civilian hands. Our gun lust is part of the reason for the militarization of the police. They must always assume a gun is present with civilians - they are literally placed in defensive mode in every interaction.

Knives have the same effect...at distances >20ft a holstered pistol cannot defend against a knife.
