Why does it need renewing? Why does Congress pass laws that expire? If times and values change, can't they be repealed? Why do they keep having to be renewed?
25 years ago today, the Violence Against Women Act was signed into law, providing women protections against abuse. Earlier this year, the House passed a strong bill to renew and improve this landmark legislation. I am proudly leading the effort in the Senate to do the same.

It's not based on facts and it ignores half of all victims, so thank God it has an expiration date!

I lobbied Congress for four years to make the Violence Against Women Act accurate and gender neutral, but it didn't happen. It broke my heart. Have you made it happen yet? If not, you shouldn't be proud of so called improvements.
