Actually the AR is one of the very best weapons for home defense. It's easy to use and doesn't have the over penetration problems of the modest 9mm handgun or an immodest William J Clinton.
Guns like the AR-15 aren’t used for hunting and they’re not viable for home protection. Firearms like the AR-15 are used by law abiding citizens for legal hunting of game and varmints regularly. Firearms like the AR-15 are also exceedingly well suited for home defense. If you believe rifles like this are not suited for either, you are horribly misinformed.

They are used for whatever lawful purpose citizens wish, which is none of your business. But to be clear, people do enjoy them recreationally, and they are awesome for protection.
