The Cadiz Water Project would drain an underground aquifer in the Mojave Desert at a rate that independent scientists have determined is unsustainable. This would destroy the delicate desert ecosystem that supports Joshua trees, desert tortoises and wild flowers.

Additionally, the Metropolitan Water District has stated that the aquifer contains numerous contaminants including arsenic and cancer-causing Chromium-6. Both of which mean this water is unsuitable for drinking in its current state.

This is why I supported Sen. Feinstein over her Democratic general election opponent. He is hailed as an environmental hero, but as CA State Senate President pro tempore he couldn't stop Cadiz, who was one of his campaign contributors.
