In President Trump’s first two years circuit court nominees have been confirmed nearly TWICE as fast as they were in President Obama’s first two years. In fact, President Trump and Leader McConnell have repeatedly bragged about their record-setting pace of confirmations.
Republicans have achieved this record pace by killing the blue slip, ignoring home-state senators, pushing multiple nominees per hearing & failing to thoroughly vet unqualified nominees. Now they say they must break the rules to move nominees even faster. There is no obstruction.
Republicans breaking Senate rules is just the latest effort to pack the federal court system with young, conservative ideologues. Republicans are already moving these nominees quickly. In fact, the average debate time for judicial nominees is just 3.1 hours.
What legal tools do we have to combat & win? If McConnell gets in trouble for negotiating a different foreign policy with Iran during 44’s admin, can’t some of his judicial appointments be challenged? Please LEAD & we will follow, thanx! #destroyMitch #McConnellResign
And it will impact this country for decades. Strong majority Dems in both houses could create legislation to counter this obvious backward trend. Congress must be in play this election. Said reluctantly, most important if trump is re-elected.
Slow and steady wins the race. This whole fiasco will probably meltdown after the 2020 presidential election maybe before (I hope).
