There’s no question that George H.W. Bush led our country through a time of turmoil. The fall of the Soviet Union and the Gulf War were both defining moments that continue to shape our nation today.

But his service started many years before. An World War II pilot, member of Congress, U.N. ambassador, CIA director and vice president, George Bush dedicated his life to public service. I was also proud to work with him and Barbara on the National Dialogue on Cancer.

President Bush’s ‘Thousand Points of Light’ speech talked about how we must have a compassionate White House and that empathy should play a role in every president’s decisions. My thoughts are with the country and his loving family. He’ll be missed.
