It makes no sense and that is exactly why he wants to do it. It makes no sense to do much of what he does. Now, I can guess he thinks that a small auto manufacturing funder of his would benefit from having low fuel standards. It would be very like him to do that kind of thing.

And of course there are his and Russian oil interests to consider as well as our own. And he doesn't want to have logical emission standards which disrupt profits even if they reduce deaths from respiratory disease and save lives as well as help the planet.

Emission standards? What’s the point? Half the state is on fire at any given time. They need to have a solution to putting out fires before they worry about auto emissions.
