Did you know there’s a law that prohibits ATF agents from electronically searching their records to find who owns a gun found at a crime scene? They can search the records, but only by hand. That’s ridiculous. I filed a bill today to change that & help them solve crimes quicker.

Two components: accountability & liability. Guns should be tracked from manufacture to final sale, with liability changing hands at each step in the supply chain. The last person to sign for for a weapon should be liable for damage, including if stolen due to negligent storage.
-
And what will you solve with that after spending money on that? Criminals erase Id numbers on guns. What will you track then?
-
Theoretically, this would identify vulnerabilities in the supply chain (e.g. a shop or delivery company regularly loses arms). There is probably a way to put the serial numbers in a place and form (e.g. RFID tag) where erasing them would render the weapon inoperable.
-
RFID? Aren't you concerned with privacy and rights? Are you ok for the government to put an RFID on your car or you?
-
RFID is all around us. Asset protection in stores. ID chips implanted in pets. Automated tolls on roadways. The read range of the antenna can be limited during development. I would consider an optional chip in my hand if I never had to carry my keys or wallet again.
-
Well good for you then. Lucky most of US citizens do not feel like government livestock in a farm. BTW like technology cannot be hacked. Even criminals fool police with their ankle bracelets. Idea is a joke.
-
I think you'd be surprised how well tracking weapons through the supply chain (which companies do with just about everything of value these days) might work at identifying bad actors (and thus preventing burdensome regs on law-abiding owners). Everything else would be optional.

What have these children ever protected anyone from and what qualifies them to counsel you on anything?
-
Surviving a mass shooting will give you experience in the gun control realm.
-
mass shooting survivors in a period of strong emotion are probably the worst candidates to give legal advice
-
Obviously not. Their experience put a face on and gave voice to a tragedy that shootings could not(sandy hook were mere 2st graders). The most successful anti-violence advocates are ones who have survived it.

Your first mistake is that your talking to someone that wasn’t even near the incident when it happened and your taking his points on how to keep us safe. 2d - ATF has no right to know who owns guns. There is NO USA registration system. Your end is near...

Sad to see our Senator talking to a Useful idiot from the left. Did Hogg talk about the PROMISE docs or the failure of local, state, and fedral law agencies to protect the children? Massive FBI failure? Common sense gun control yes - Taking guns from lawful citizens NO!
