We can’t allow what happened in Parkland and in Texas to become the new normal in this country. I just announced that I will be filing new legislation to hire more mental health professionals at schools across the country to ensure any student who needs help is able to get it.pic.twitter.com/SaWLRRlD1B

Some of these shooters aren't in school. Stop avoiding the real problems--lack of comprehensive background checks, easy access to guns, big loopholes, availability of WMDs, and of course the NRA's propaganda machine. We need real reform, not lip service and thoughts and prayers.

So Sen. Nelson, what new gun control legislation are you going to propose? Please!

@SenBillNelson is for gun control. Many of Florida's other representatives are opposed.

Then why isn’t he stating that? He posted about hiring more counselors for schools but nothing about gun control.

It has to start somewhere doesn't it? No matter what else happens how can anyone argue that this isn't a positive step?

Hiring more counselors is FAR from being a first step. How the heck will that help?

Can you not envision a scenario where a troubled kid turns to a councillor when he has thoughts of harming himself or others? I don't find that an unbelievable sequence.

It's welcomed Mr. Nelson, but the human condition is a constant and these massacres only occur regularly in the US. There are too many guns and they are too easily available.

Senator. This is a great idea. Please make sure that this is a fully-funded iniative. Local districts are already trying to figure out how to pay for the mandatory ‘armed’ personnel.

Bill, what about defunding Planned Parenthood. Use the $500 million in taxpayer money they get each year and put it to use protecting our kids in school. Use taxpayer money to save/protect lives not take them. PP should be funded by private means, IMHO.

Rick Scott told his dark money donors that he needs 200 Million to beat Bill Nelson. Why would any sane person spend that much money unless he expects to double his money getting kick backs for his votes.? He is trying to double his money!
