In 2016, for every 1,000 babies born in Florida, 18 are born dependent on opioids. This is an increase over the previous year, where for every 1,000 newborns, 11 are born suffering from Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome.

The spending package also includes a $60 million increase in funding for state grants to help babies born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome get the care they need.
