Is it the website password? My carrier has "client password" that is for operator calls only and that's okay-ish
For me it's used for both. I think you can define a different one just for checking your online stuff, but for changes to your contract you have to use the client password again
Why would an employee need to "access" the password? Typing it in, and comparing the hashes by application (stored and typed) would be totally ok. Absolutely no need to save these or portions of these in plaintext.
