A reader writes in to offer us a few business suggestions: "I would suggest that you guys give gratis bottles of your oil to the major culinary magazines/websites such as Saveur, America's Test Kitchen/Cooks Country, Bon Appetit, etc.

If they like it, the fee marketing will be a thousand fold. A little to venture, but a hell of a lot to gain. Just my thoughts as a long time foodie."

If we could get a bottle of Selo into the hands of someone at a major TV network or foodie magazine, we'd love to. The problem with that is that we can't exactly just ship a bottle there and hope it gets to someone who matters. If someone has a connection, give us a shout.

Of course, that's the beauty of the internet, isn't it? Young, small, family-like companies can now actually reach global markets with just a few button clicks. We can go on Instagram and buy shoutouts, we can do Facebook ads... Endless possibilities.

It used to be that a business owner had to make connections with the right people in order to get a product to market. Now, almost anyone with enough motivation and desire can make it happen.

However, there's one really key problem with this: Because of this low barrier to entry, it means that people can sell absolute garbage.

You see it all the time when it comes to people "Dropshipping" stuff from China on sites like AliExpress. They buy an iPhone case for $1.50, mark it up to $15, sell. Of course, it's junk quality, the customer wants refunds, the people selling get chargebacks…so on, so forth.

Nobody is happy. That's why we feel it's important to have a high-quality, real product. Especially when it comes to the oil industry, which is full of fake stuff (though more from Italy than China...)
