My first ever co-authored technical paper has been published! I recommend reading it, but only if you’re into the intricacies of novel ways of detecting cyberattacks in major infrastructure grids using state-of-the-art classification algorithms.

Pretty sure I’ve posted these before, from a 2016 visit to Netiv HaAsara near the border with Gaza. Shrapnel from Hamas missiles launched into Israel. Not small.

Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, yesterday claimed victory in "the battle for Jerusalem". Haniyeh left in Dec 2019 and hasn't been back since. He may say Hamas won in Jerusalem, but it's the people of Gaza who end up losing their lives and their homes in this.

Inside Israel, in Lod, Arab citizens attacking Jewish vehicles and in the neighboring Ramla Jews attacking Arab vehicles. The damage to coexistence and shared citizenhood is much larger than the damage to property.

    - The Palestinian Authority continues to choose the path of least resistance to continue in power - “security co-operation” with Israel while rewarding violent protests and terrorist acts - in short: there are no grown ups left in the room and both peoples suffer as a result

    - neither side has been prepared to make first concessions to advance peace - there’s no incentive for Netanyahu and centre right politicians to do anything other than stoke tensions (cont.)

    - Hamas is a terrorist group and Israeli civilians don’t deserve to live in fear - For many years the Israeli government/authorities have made bad decisions in their “management” of the OPT and the holy sites in Jerusalem (cont.)

Bibi and Gantz to give joint statement in 15 mins. Unless they are announcing a unity government, I doubt it's good news. And they are not announcing a unity government

13 story building levelled in Gaza. Hundreds of rockets fired into Gush Dan. Dead & injured Palestinian & Israeli kids. Sectarian violence spreading on streets. This is horrendous. We need urgent int action to de-escalate. As dark as this is: it will now get MUCH worse without it

Too early to tell for sure, but Hamas appears to be having more success than in the past in overwhelming Iron Dome with bigger barrages. If true, will lead to more Israeli casualties, which will also mean a harsher Israeli response. A recipe for significant escalation.

Worth remembering that even when rockets are intercepted, the Iron Dome’s shrapnel can cause serious damage

Before some collectively blame Gazans for the acts of Hamas: Hamas narrowly won an election in 2006. It's never allowed one since (and tortures dissidents). Gaza's median age is 18. In other words, more than half its population wasn't even eligible to vote when Hamas took power.

This is not our Israel, and this is not our Zionism. Tonight, in Jerusalem, an anti Palestinian song being chanted with glee as a fire burns in Al Aqsa. We must call out racism and extremism - even if it means calling out members of our own community.

This is a block with ACM cladding which I visited in 2019 as part of a piece about how long it was taking to remove. Here we are two years later - the cladding is still on the walls and now it's on fire.

There’s no such thing as a police operation that ends up with 25 people killed. This is a massacre. Nothing justifies this sickening bloodshed. Rio police is one of the deadliest in the world and often targets are Black and poor people in favelas.

Many years ago, police precincts used to kill and move bodies beyond their boundaries, so another precinct had to deal with them. They often found the bodies back in their turf. Police still summarily kill and deny victims the benefit of a full investigation. Nothing has changed.
