1/ This actually makes total sense btw: my tweet sounds like I lament that we can’t focus on “important issues” like this but in multiculti America 2018, why would anyone care about this? It isn’t a shared burden, nationally, anymore. We aren’t “in this together” so why should...https://twitter.com/SelimSeesYou/status/1051989309895585794 …

Like it or not we kinda are all in this together divided as we my be. The combination of record spending and and massive tax cuts for the rich is going to come back at all of us probably sooner that later and we will probably end up looking back at now as the good ol' days.

You’re right that we are. If/when the consequences arrive, we’ll all bear them of course. Unless you have means to flee, you’re stuck. I just mean there’s no collective perception as the country divides: can’t come together to fix, even if it’s just a notion of togetherness.

Everyone has checked out/is unwilling to work together anymore.

Lame as it sounds I do lament that we can't focus on "real issues" anymore. I know "healing the divide" is a meme but that doesn't make us any less fucked if we don't start focusing on less politically sexy issues. Sadly you're right, no ones gonna give a shit till they have to.

Ray Dalio put out a great book on Debt Cycles. I agree with him that at some point, likely during Trump's Presidency, we'll see a gap between spending (including pensions etc.) and demand for US bonds so we'll print. ~30% devaluation of dollar.

Our economic policy is bad right now and I think it'll exacerbate our current political tensions.
