Does this guy know that most universities still have a language requirement for doctoral mathematics programs? You are required to be able to read papers in either French, German, or Russian. Along w/ English, these are the ppl who have done almost all the math that matters. https://twitter.com/SelimSeesYou/status/1035394455203803136 …

You would think the language wouldn’t matter: the colonizers just stole all the work from Africans or Indians or whatever. Wouldn’t it be better to read them in the original click clack or Hindi or whatever, lest the incompetent whites mistranslated their brilliant work?

Or the obv answers: this guy is full of shit. The English/French/Germans/Russians/Americans did all the mathematics work that matters (minor contributions from a Spain or Portugal, Italy or Poland) & everyone outside Europe/Europe’s extensions contributed virtually nothing.

Taking it outside of mathematics alone: it was generally understood throughout the 19th century up to the world wars that science broadly was (and would be) conducted in English/French/German. French declined/German was stamped out but those were the main contributors. Even now..

The fall of both German & French has left the field essentially to English alone. Again, as I said w/ the math: Kit can go ahead & find me all the science being done by the Aztecs or Africans or Indians or whoever & show me the original work the Europeans merely stole. I’ll wait.

I remember the space race between Americans (white ppl) & the Soviets (other white ppl). I don’t remember which variety of poc each side stole from to learn how to do rocketry properly. There must have been one I’m sure. Wasn’t akchually Americans & Russians racing for space.
