I actually get it: if we learned anything from WW1 it’s to not let some little thing in the Balkans spiral out of control. So I don’t necessarily blame the Russians if they chose to let US run table. But w/ shit boiling over in Germany, what will US do then? And today’s Russia?

What if Germany chimps out again? Will the US* bomb Germans to save Muslims again, this time in the heart of Europe? Will Russians back down again & let the US do as they please? Can’t see that happening this time. What if US drives Germany into Russia’s embrace (a US nightmare)

It seems far fetched because of normalcy bias, and maybe it is. Maybe the Germans are cucked for good this time. Maybe there will be no Katastrophe. Quietly into that good night. But maybe they won’t. Even if it’s a ways off, what would US do? What could they do w/ Russia there?

This was just a couple of years after the USSR fell apart, Russia was bankrupt and starving at the time, huge parts of its military had deserted, factories shut down and population shrinking. There was nothing they *could* do.

Yep - Russia only arrived at the scene with the bombing of Kosovo in 99.
