I am not optimistic about birthright citizenship getting a restrictionist (in terms of immigration) interpretation before SCOTUS: the textualists on the court will read the plain language of the 14th Amendment. That doesn't mean we shouldn't push though. We'll get everything else
This is something GOPe and "nice conservatives" simply don't understand. They say "why try if it's pointless" because they're goal oriented rather than systems oriented (like Scott Adams). Trump is the first systems President we've had on the political right. He understands the..
.. value of pushing for way more than what you expect to get. Most of the right are afraid of doing this because this MO isn't natural to them, like a fish out of water.
And the "system" in this case is to keep pushing, not with some end goal in sight, but to shift the public opinion on what is seen as "normal" (Overton Window). He's already done this on immigration, but few realize.
4 years ago, we were talking about amnesty for 20 million illegals. Today, that's out of the question and a quasi-amnesty for the DACA "kids" in exchange for restrictionism of some sort is now "normal."
Trump will keep hanging this stuff out there to make the left and open borders crowd go bonkers and say "these people are crazy and don't care"... and the "normal" will keep shifting to the right. That's a good system.
End Birthright Citizenship and Chain Migration and start Chain Deportation.
